Frequently asked questions
What regulations apply to a new staircase?
Approved Document K covers rise, going, headroom, guarding and handrails. Approved Document M and Approved Document B also apply in some buildings, and BS 5395 gives further guidance.
Do you supply the balustrade and handrails with the stair?
Yes. We design the stair, balustrade and handrails together, so there is one point of responsibility.
What finishes are available for steel stairs?
Hot-dip galvanising for external stairs, powder coating, or primer for site painting. Treads can be steel, open grid or prepared for timber or stone.
