Service 07 — Design & Engineering
Design and Engineering for Gateway 2 and BIM
We design our metalwork and steelwork in-house, so packages are coordinated, buildable and fully documented before fabrication starts. Our designers work directly with our workshop, so what we model is what we make.

What we do
- 3D modelling of balconies, balustrades, stairs, screens and steelwork in SolidWorks
- BIM coordination in Revit, and 2D drawings in AutoCAD
- General arrangement, setting-out and fabrication drawings
- CNC and laser-cutting files straight from the model
- Visualisations and renders for design approval
- Value engineering to reduce cost, weight or programme
Gateway 2
On higher-risk buildings we provide the drawings, specifications, product data and fire classification evidence needed for Gateway 2, plus handover information for the golden thread.

Frequently asked questions
What is Gateway 2?
The stage under the Building Safety Act 2022 where the Building Safety Regulator must approve the building control application for a higher-risk building before work starts. The application must show how the design meets the Building Regulations.
Which buildings count as higher-risk buildings?
In England, buildings at least 18 m tall or with at least seven storeys that contain at least two residential units. Hospitals and care homes that meet the same height test also count.
What software do you use?
We model in SolidWorks, use Revit for BIM coordination with the project team, and produce 2D drawings in AutoCAD. Fabrication drawings and cutting files come directly from the model.
